Dreams become reality at this tropical beach-side spa

Balmy evenings, floating bars, white sandy beaches and luxurious spa treatments by the ocean. This is the stuff dreams are made of, but in a tiny enclave of the Caribbean, it is very much a reality.

The Dominican Republic is famed for its luxury all-inclusive resorts – but the Dreams chain of resorts have taken it to the next level. Each one of the brand’s three Dominican resorts boast stunning scenery, world-class facilities and a nod towards the traditional culture of the island.

Dreams Punta Cana Resort and Spa sits on the quiet south-western coast of the Dominican Republic. The resort is completely self-sufficient, and looks like you’ve stumbled across a hidden oasis.

It’s surrounded on all sides by dense Caribbean rainforest, and where the jungle ends, the beach begins. Long, clean and postcard-perfect, it is big enough to be private even on a busy day.

This is the sort of place where you go to get away from everything and learn the real meaning of relaxation.

The on-site spa (Dreams Spa by Pevonia) knows exactly what its visitors are looking for. There is a huge range of romantic spa therapies for two, and couples can even plan their wedding on site, complete with pre-and post-ceremony spa treatments for the bride and groom (you can even book out the entire resort for your wedding guests, if you’’e feeling generous).

The Post-Sun Exposure Soothing Facial and the Water Lily After-Sun Soothing Wrap will be the perfect tonic to a long day spent on the resort’s private beach, while the Papaya and Pineapple Pedicure will bring back tropical memories long after you have returned home.

For something a little more special, try the radiance-enhancing Luminous “C” Facial or the unisex Myoxy-Caviar Facial, which uses real caviar to moisturise and plump up the skin.

The massage menu includes classics such as the Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Massage (which is great after a day spent scuba diving around the nearby reefs), as well as unusual options such as the memory-enhancing Candle Massage and the adults-only Winetherapy Massage.

Kids are welcome on the resort, but this is a place best enjoyed by grownups. As well as fun touches such as the free-form swimming pool (which starts inside the hotel, and ends on the beach) and an on-site casino, the main draws of the resort are the world-class spa treatments, serene privacy and endless romance.

Go for your wedding, then return with the kids a few years later and enjoy the resort in a completely different way.
