Soak in the surroundings in this Nordic-inspired winter wonderland

Imagine a gingerbread village, covered in frosting and dusted with sugar. This is what you’ll see when you look down at the Scandinave Spa Whistler from the snowy peaks of Mount Blackcomb in Canada’s Coast Mountains.

This perfect little winter wonderland is strictly for those in the know. It’s two hours north of Vancouver, tucked away in a quiet recess of the popular ski resort of Whistler.

Set over 20,000 square feet of snowy slopes and forests, the spa is the perfect place to get lost in nature, or find yourself in the stillness and silence of a Scandinavian bath. Perfectly kitted out for the après-ski crowd, it offers a range of therapeutic massages, including Swedish massage (of course), pre-natal massage, and extra-deep deep tissue massage, which will restore your body after a tough day of cross-country skiing.

However, the spa’s real draw is the Scandinavian hydrotherapy routine. Thermal waterfalls, hot mineral baths, eucalyptus-infused steam rooms and a Finnish sauna are all at hand to warm you up and help you relax.

This is followed up with a quick rinse in the ice-cold Nordic waterfalls, then a relaxing session in the solarium or on an outdoor hammock, where you can relax and let your stress melt away. Repeat this process three or four times and you will really start to feel the benefits.

As part of Canada’s popular Scandinave Spa chain, the Whistler resort takes its inspiration from Nordic design, with its wood-panelled saunas and minimalist treatment rooms. Nature is a key element of the Scandinave experience, and the resort certainly makes the most of its stunning location by offering guided tours and action-packed packages for guests.

Don’t miss the PEAK 2 PEAK gondola that runs from Whistler Mountain to Blackcomb Mountain, passing over the Scandinave Spa along the way.

To get the most out of your stay, wear yourself out with a wintry hike or a lakeside cycle in the morning, then luxuriate in the spa all afternoon, as you gaze over the snowy mountain peaks that surround you.

The only drawback is that the spa doesn’t cater to overnight guests, although there is no shortage of rustic and luxury lodgings in the town of Whistler, or by the nearby shores of Lost Lake. Scandinave Spa Whistler is extremely popular during the winter sports season, so you will have to book ahead.

A luxurious retreat surrounded by spruce trees and a cedar forest – this is the ultimate winter idyll for hikers, skiers and romantics alike.
