Lose yourself in luxury at an all-natural spa resort in the rainforests of Belize

Tropical butterflies, ancient rainforests, and al fresco massages – Chaa Creek Spa is one of those rare spots where natural beauty meets organic luxury.

This is no ordinary spa. Within the grounds of the Chaa Creek Resort, you will find an organic farm (which provides most of the ingredients for the resort’s eateries – The Lodge at Chaa Creek and the Macal River Camp), a butterfly exhibit, a 365-acre nature reserve, twice-daily horseback riding tours, a woodworking shop, and even a natural history museum.

And then of course, there is the spa itself. The Hilltop Spa at Chaa Creek overlooks the winding Macal River and the Maya Mountains in the distance, and the resort is surrounded on all sides by the stunning Caribbean Rainforest.

As well as a selection of restaurants and other outdoor activities, there is a romantic bi-level infinity pool which appears to cascade into the jungle below.

At the spa itself, all of the treatments are rooted in the natural environment. Try one of the nature-inspired facials such as the Oxy-Vital Mask, which uses locally-sourced aloe vera and is perfect for sensitive skin.

For something completely different, sign up for the Anti Free Radicals Mask – the plant-based face mask goes on hot, before gradually cooling until it has formed a hard mask, then simply lift it off to reveal tighter and brighter skin underneath.

All the spa’s massages can be performed in the great outdoors, to really enhance that feeling of being at one with nature. There is truly nothing quite as relaxing as the thought of a full body aromatherapy massage in the warmth of the Belizean sun as the sounds of the rainforest wash over you.

Belize itself is probably Central America’s best kept secret. Sitting between Mexico and the islands of the Caribbean, it is all lush rainforests, white sandy beaches, and ancient Mayan ruins.

Chaa Creek is set approximately 100km inland, along the banks of the Macal River. It is both reassuringly private and effortlessly comfortable – a hidden jungle retreat which is perfect for romantic getaways or a solo escape.

Naturally, the resort is not easy to get to, but once you’re there you won’t need to travel anywhere else. Relax with a few days’ worth of treatments at the Hilltop Spa, then explore wild Belize on horseback or by canoe, and seek out some of the country’s lesser-known jungle treks and historic ruins.

Once you’ve experienced everything that Chaa Creek has to offer, there’s no doubt you’ll want to keep the secret to yourself so you can continue to enjoy the surroundings in peace, year after year.
