Peak fitness and Alpine air at the Tschuggen Grand Hotel Spa

The fresh Alpine air is said to have a healing effect – in Victorian times, the wealthy elite would spend springtime in the mountains “taking the air”, before returning to England rejuvenated and healthy.

Today, the Swiss Alps are still known as a favoured retreat for the rich, famous and royal – a world away from the rigours of city life, and a place where you can be as active or as dormant as you like. Tschuggen Spa embodies this philosophy.

The Setting

Situated beside the picturesque town of Arosa, the spa offers a huge array of treatments for men and women, designed to make the most of the natural surroundings.

Tschuggen Spa Location

Take in the views as you arrive at the Tschuggen Grand Hotel Spa by the resort’s private railway – the Tschuggen Express. The sprawling spa area is carved out of local Arosa rock and Alpine-sourced Duke White granite stone, while numerous outdoor areas encourage you to take in your surroundings while you relax.

From Tschuggen Spa, guests can take the cable car between Arosa and Lenzerheide, giving you access to 225km of world-class ski slopes, and the resort is well equipped to deal with any sporting injuries or aching muscles.

The Treatments

Physiotherapists are available 24/7 offering innovative treatments such as taping, which aids muscle renewal and the spa’s bespoke sports massage uses oils made from mountain pine to bring that outdoors feeling inside.

Or give your muscles a rest in one of the spa’s hydro tubs – the Thalasso Purifying Algae Bath and the Thalaselbain Sea Salt Bath are best for muscle repair, while the Tschuggen Beauty Bath is pure indulgence, featuring milk and honey to nourish and moisturise your skin.

Tschuggen Spa Treatments

The Tschuggen spa’s extensive menu also includes a range of beauty treatments as well as classics such as facials (by Clarins, Sensai and Dermalogica), massages and body scrubs.

Try the Lava Scrub – a unisex exfoliating treatment made with volcanic stones from Stromboli, which is said to leave you feeling clean and refreshed.

A Touch of Romance

For extra privacy, book either the Musicada or Polaris suite – these mini health spas feature a sauna, a whirlpool and steam room, all under the twinkling Swiss sky.

Bring your own iPod or DVDs to set the mood – the ‘Sweet Romance’ package also includes a bottle of Prosecco, plus strawberries and chocolates.

Tschuggen Spa Private Room

Whether you are looking for a skiing holiday, a relaxing retreat or a romantic break, Tschuggen Spa can deliver. It may not be the most easily accessible spa in the world, but once you start your ascent into the mountains and breathe in that fresh Alpine air, it will be worth the journey.
